Horror-manga legend Junji Ito is popping up at PARCO—next to a very cute kitty (and friends).
The collab is official (not fan art): it’s Junji Ito × Sanrio Characters, a licensed crossover that turns Ito’s icons into limited-edition merch, including a few oddball Sanrio character mashups.
Ito says the pitch initially made him blink. In the original announcement for Junji Ito × Sanrio Characters, he said his first thought was basically, why ask me—the horror guy? Then he admitted what changed his mind: Sanrio merch is a favorite at home, and he jumped in to “raise [his] stock” as a father.
That first run landed at Shibuya and Shinsaibashi PARCO in 2024. Now it’s back for a second, bigger lap, and touring into early 2026 in Japan.
Ito is, of course, in the process of being canonized. Over the last few years, he’s been the subject of large-scale retrospectives in Japan, the buzziest being the touring Junji Ito Exhibition: Enchantment, which framed his drawings as fine art rather than horror manga illustrations. In the West, his visibility has surged through Netflix adaptations (Junji Ito: Maniac, Uzumaki) that introduced him to audiences who may never have read a horror manga.
